Israel’s Geophysical Data Repository

Institute Archive

The Geophysical Archive of the Geophysical Institute of Israel constitutes the most comprehensive and central repository of geophysical and geological data in Israel. Over more than six decades of activity, we have accumulated and preserved thousands of seismic, gravity, and magnetic surveys, both onshore and offshore, two-dimensional and three-dimensional.

National Archive Management

The Ministry of Energy appointed the Geophysical Institute of Israel as the entity responsible for storage, maintenance, and management of the National Geophysical Archive. We manage and preserve all professional reports and data related to oil and gas exploration activities in Israel. According to law, every company conducting exploration activities in Israeli territory is required to submit its data to the archive. The information, including seismic surveys and well logs, is stored securely in the physical archive, local servers, and an external backup system.

Access to Information

The Ministry of Energy enables public access to collected geological and geophysical information, after the confidentiality period established by law expires. This policy is designed to advance industry in Israel and increase the success rate of future exploration projects. Our geographic information portal provides a view of the data available in the archive. To obtain a copy of the information, official approval from the Ministry of Energy is required.
